The Yachtmaster Offshore certification allows skippers to take yachts up to 150 miles from harbour. The practical exam will test your skippering skills, boat handling, general seamanship, navigation, safety awareness and knowledge of the IRPCS, meteorology, and signals. While no formal training is required to undertake the 5-day Yachtmaster Offshore exam, it is recommended that participants undertake informal preparatory training leading up to the test.
The RYA Yachtmaster Offshore exam is an assessment of your sailing abilities over a period of 12-18 hours during the course. You will be tested on the following skills:

Those who have not previously taken RYA courses will find it beneficial to undertake informal RYA “prep” training to prepare for the course. This training will help fill any weaknesses in your knowledge that might otherwise compromise your success in passing the exam. With the Day Skipper certification under your belt, you will finally be able to sail without supervision, and the sea will be yours for the taking.
Skippers looking to take their sailing to an advanced level can consider the Coastal Skipper course, developing competency in undertaking coastal passages by night and in challenging weather conditions. This course goes into further detail on passage planning, boat handling, and sailing safety and handling of emergencies. Those with an already well-developed understanding of sea navigation and sailing can undertake the Coastal Skipper course.
The next step-up from the Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper qualifications, considered by many to be the pinnacle of inshore sailing or the next step towards offshore or professional accreditation. The Yachtmaster Coastal certificate of competence provides practical and and theory instruction, followed by exams. Qualification will allow skippering up to 150 nm of harbour. Mallorca Sailing School is a sailing-only education provider, and as such, this practical exam is not available to be taken under power.
