Can I enroll in the Start Yachting course?

Currently, we do not offer the Start Yachting course. However, we recommend the Competent Crew course for beginners. It's an excellent introduction to sailing, covering basic sailing techniques, safety procedures, and life aboard a yacht. This course sets a solid foundation for your sailing education and future advancement.

Do you do professional qualifications

No, we are primarily a leisure school however it is possible to get qualifications endorsed by the RYA (Royal Yachting Association). Our courses are designed to equip you with the skills and certifications needed for a career in sailing or to enhance your personal proficiency on the water. From foundational levels to advanced certifications, our experienced instructors will guide you through each step of your professional sailing journey.

Do you do theory courses

Absolutely! We offer theory courses via our online partners Ardent, including the RYA Day Skipper Theory course, which is available online for your convenience. These courses cover essential topics such as navigation, meteorology, and seamanship, providing you with the theoretical knowledge required to progress to practical courses and become a competent sailor.

Do you offer the Yachtmaster course?

Yes, we offer preparation courses for the RYA Yachtmaster certification. This advanced qualification is ideal for experienced sailors looking to take their skills to a professional level. Our comprehensive training includes both practical and theoretical components to help you succeed in the Yachtmaster examinations.

Do you teach motor courses, especially the PB2?

While our primary focus is on sailing courses, we intend to offer the RYA Powerboat Level 2 (PB2) course upon request. This course provides essential training for operating powerboats and is suitable for both beginners and those with some experience. Please contact us to inquire about availability and scheduling.

Do you provide courses for the ICC?

For those with Day Skipper practical qualification you can apply directly to the RYA and they will issue an ICC for any UK residents.

What languages are the courses taught in?

Our courses are primarily taught in English. All course material is in English. However, we can accommodate other languages during mile building trips, depending on instructor availability. Please let us know your language preferences when booking, and we'll do our best to meet your needs.

I have no experience and want to be a Yachtmaster

Embarking on a journey to become a Yachtmaster with no prior experience is ambitious but achievable with dedication and the right training path. We recommend starting with the Competent Crew course to build foundational skills, followed by the Day Skipper Theory and Practical courses. As you progress, you'll need to accumulate the necessary sea time and experience required for the Yachtmaster certification.

How much experience do I need to do the Competent Crew course?

No prior sailing experience is needed for the Competent Crew course. It's designed for beginners and will teach you the basics of sailing, including safety procedures, seamanship, and basic navigation. It's the perfect starting point for anyone new to sailing.

How much experience do I need to do the Day Skipper course?

For the Day Skipper Practical course, you should have some sailing experience, typically around 5 days at sea, 100 nautical miles, and 4 night hours. Additionally, completing the Day Skipper Theory course beforehand is required to ensure you have the necessary knowledge to skipper a yacht safely and to apply that information to the practical course.

Do I need to do the theory course to do the Day Skipper?

Yes, completing the Day Skipper Theory course is required before undertaking the Day Skipper Practical course. The theory course provides essential knowledge on navigation, weather, and collision regulations, which are crucial for safely skippering a yacht.

Can I do Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper back to back?

While it's possible to enroll in both courses consecutively, we advise gaining additional sailing experience between the Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper courses. The Coastal Skipper course requires a higher level of skill and knowledge, and practical experience will help you meet the prerequisites and get the most out of the training.

Can I do Competent Crew and Day Skipper back to back?

This is not recommended you can however undertake the Competent Crew and Day Skipper courses closely following each other if you meet the prerequisites for the Day Skipper course. After completing the Competent Crew course, you should ensure you have the necessary theoretical knowledge and some additional sailing experience to prepare for the Day Skipper Practical course.

Can I do a split course?

Yes, we offer flexibility in scheduling, allowing you to split your course over different dates if needed. This approach can help you manage your time effectively and ensure you're fully prepared for each stage of your sailing education. Please contact us to discuss your scheduling needs.

Do you run female-only courses?

We are pleased to offer female-only courses upon request though they will require the entire boat to be booked. These courses provide a comfortable and supportive learning environment for women. Please reach out to us to inquire about availability and scheduling.

Can I have a private cabin?

Cabins are available on a first-come, first-served basis and depend on the number of people requiring accommodation. If you require a private cabin for privacy and comfort, please let us know when booking your course, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Is the course always on the vessel, or can I stay ashore?

While our courses are designed to provide an immersive sailing experience onboard the vessel, we understand that some participants may prefer to stay ashore. You are welcome to arrange your own accommodation onshore if you wish. Please inform us in advance so we can coordinate accordingly.

Can my kids come on the course?

Our courses are generally designed for individuals aged 17 and above. However, we may be able to accommodate younger students on a case-by-case basis, especially in private courses or family groups. Please contact us to discuss the possibilities and any necessary arrangements.

Do you offer private courses?

I have my own sailboat; can I use it for my training?

Can I have a private cabin on my mile builder?

Private cabins during mile-building trips are subject to availability and will incur an additional cost. If you prefer a private cabin for added comfort during your voyage, please request this when booking, and we will do our best to accommodate your preference.

Where are you based in Mallorca?

We are based in the main harbor of Palma de Mallorca, providing easy access to the beautiful sailing grounds of the Balearic Islands. Our central location is convenient for transportation and accommodation options, making it an ideal starting point for your sailing adventure.

Where do you sail to?

Our sailing courses and trips explore the stunning waters around Mallorca and the Balearic Islands. Depending on the course or trip, we may visit neighboring islands such as Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera, offering a diverse and enriching sailing experience.

What type of boat do you use?

We use modern, well-equipped sailing yachts that are comfortable and safe for training purposes. Our vessels must meet rigerous RYA standards, ensuring you have the best possible learning environment during your course.

Do I need a jacket?

es, we recommend bringing a waterproof jacket and appropriate sailing attire to protect against wind and occasional spray. Even in sunny climates, weather conditions can change, so it's best to be prepared for cooler temperatures and rain especially in the shoulder seasons

What meals will I get?

We do not provide meals during courses however you are welcome to bring food and the vessel is equipped with cooker and refrigerator. On mile building trips we will do a group provision trip to stock the vessel, this will be divided amongst the participants Shared meal preparation is often part of the crew experience, enhancing teamwork and camaraderie.

What bedding do you supply?

We provide basic bedding on board, including pillows and blankets. However, you may wish to bring your own sleeping bag or additional bedding for extra comfort, especially during cooler months or if you have personal preferences.

What do I need to bring?

We recommend bringing comfortable clothing suitable for sailing, non-marking shoes, a waterproof jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses, and personal toiletries. Don't forget any necessary medications and your sailing logbook if you have one. A detailed packing list will be provided upon booking to help you prepare.

Can I smoke on board during courses and mile builders?

Smoking is not permitted inside the vessel. If you wish to smoke, please do so on deck and ensure that it does not interfere with the comfort and safety of other participants. Always dispose of cigarette ends responsibly to maintain a clean and safe environment.

What will I learn?

Our courses cover a wide range of sailing skills, including boat handling, navigation, safety procedures, sail trimming, anchoring techniques, and more. Depending on the course level, you'll gain knowledge suitable for crew members or take on responsibilities as a skipper, preparing you for various sailing adventures.

Can my non-sailing partner join the course?

While our courses are intensive training programs designed for participants, your non-sailing partner may join you if they enroll in the course as well. Alternatively, for private courses or charters, we can accommodate non-participating guests. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.

What health restrictions do you have?

Sailing can be physically demanding. Participants should be in good health and able to perform tasks such as climbing steps, moving around the vessel, and handling ropes. If you have any medical conditions or concerns, please consult with us prior to booking to ensure we can accommodate your needs safely.

Do you have any job openings?

Is the cost of fuel included in the course fee?

Do I need to take out sailing insurance?

While we have insurance that covers the vessel and our operations, we recommend that participants obtain personal travel insurance that includes coverage for sailing activities. This ensures you're protected in case of unexpected events, cancellations, or personal accidents.
